Mobile Phone Policy

No Mobile Phones or Personal Screen Devices

Campers do not need mobile phones or internet-connected screen devices at camp, and we do not allow them during the programme (including residential stays).

This policy:

  • Balances 6+ hours of structured computer learning with healthy screen-free time
  • Encourages real friendships, interaction and confidence during breaks
  • Supports safeguarding across a wide age range particularly at some of our venues where WiFi is open
  • Promotes better focus, wellbeing and sleep (for residential campers)

Our approach is fully consistent with policies increasingly adopted across schools and the wider education sector to reduce mobile phone use in order to support attention, wellbeing and social development.

We consistently see that campers thrive without personal devices. They engage more fully, build independence, and get far more out of the experience.

Communication with Home

Parents can contact us at any time via phone or email.

Campers are also welcome to speak to their parents whenever they wish — they simply ask to use the Camp Manager’s phone.

In practice, this provides clearer, safer and more reliable communication than relying on personal mobiles (which often have poor signal on site).

Practical Notes

  • Travelling alone? Phones can be handed in on arrival and returned at departure.
  • Worried about telling the time (residential)? Please send a small battery-powered clock or a simple watch.
  • Needs audio to sleep? A basic non-internet audio device is fine.
  • Medical device linked to a phone? Please contact us so we can agree a suitable plan.

A short digital detox helps campers fully experience camp — without distraction.
